Dairy allergy is a common allergy and the most common reason people have a reaction to milk products.
So how do you deal with it?
Read more 1/6 Dairy products have a ‘strong anti-bacterial’ effect Dairy products can help fight off many infections, including many caused by viruses and bacteria.
But scientists at the University of Leeds found that some dairy products, including milk, contain a “strong anti‑bacterial” effect, even though there’s not enough research to prove it. 2/6 Many dairy products are high in sugar The majority of processed foods in the US contain added sugar, which is generally bad for you.
That’s because it’s absorbed into the bloodstream and doesn’t get broken down by the body.
We’re told that’s why “processed” food is “healthier” than natural foods, but a recent study shows it may actually be harming your health.
A study published in the New England Journal of Medicine found that people who consumed a diet high in added sugar experienced a number of health problems, including type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and cancer.
3/6 Your body needs protein, not carbs A lot of people avoid carbohydrates, because they’re high in calories but also cause a lot of the same problems as sugar.
However, some research has suggested that not only can you get a lot more satiety from a low-carb diet, it might actually help to shed fat, too.
A University of Wisconsin-Madison study found that women who reduced their carbohydrate intake by 25 per cent lost an average of 6 per cent of their body weight.
The researchers concluded: “A low-glycemic index diet, especially with a high-protein, low-fat intake, was associated with weight loss and a reduced risk of metabolic syndrome and type 2 [diabetes] in women.”
4/6 Sugar makes us fat Eating too much sugar can lead to obesity and diabetes.
Research has linked sugary drinks and other sugary foods, such as soft drinks and fast food, to obesity, diabetes and other health problems.
But not all of these factors are caused by sugar.
One big reason is that sugary treats are often highly processed, and contain high amounts of salt, which our bodies can’t process properly.
5/6 Processed food is linked to cancer Many processed food items, such tocakes, biscuits, pizza and soft drinks, contain high levels of salt and fat.
Processed foods are also high in sodium and sugar, and have been linked to bowel cancer, a condition which develops when cells in the bowel divide uncontrollably.
A 2015 review by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) found that processed food contains sodium, sugar and refined carbohydrates, while whole grains and fruits are low in salt.
A diet high on processed food is associated with a 40 per cent increased risk of bowel cancer.
6/6 The sunflower oil in your breakfast cereal is likely to have harmful chemicals Some processed breakfast cereals, such Asda’s Double Double Oats, contain monosodium glutamate, which can cause cancer, and is often added to food to make it taste better.
But researchers at the Universities of Exeter and Newcastle found that the sunflower seed oil in many of these products was also likely to be harmful.
They found that when monosulfuric acid (MSO) was added to cereal, it inhibited the absorption of nutrients in the gut, leading to cancer.
These monosaturated fatty acids can also cause cancer in animals, according to the World Cancer Research Fund.
1/60 The sun’s rays are harmful The sun is the best way to get a tan, according a new study.
Scientists claim that the rays can damage the human skin, eyes and DNA, and contribute to ageing and cancer, among other things.
But despite the risks, humans are naturally attracted to the colour orange, and scientists have suggested that humans evolved to be attracted to it because of its orange colour.
Rex 2/60 You can eat the very best chocolate in the world Scientists have discovered that chocolate is actually better for you than many other rich and powerful foods, including red meat, whole grains, refined carbohydrates and sugar.
It turns out that the only times chocolate actually helps us live longer is in the form of cookies, bars, cakes, biscuits and sugary drink.
Eating too many of the bad things in chocolate can lead the bad ones to build up in our bodies for years to come, putting us at greater risk of cancer, according the experts.
